Once in Vienna…
I’d like to tell a story: PROUD TO BE KIWANIAN
Many years ago I was in Vienna, with my friends on our Christmas holidays. We were visiting the city centre where there was a very impressive Christmas atmosphere.
My friends looked at me saying: “oh Elio, there are two stands selling “vinbrule” (mulled wine), let’s go there!” Those stands unfortunately had the Lions and Rotary Club logos.
What it is the moral of the story?
When we see our “K” anywhere in the world it makes us very proud because it means there are Kiwanian friends in that city that serve children and their community.
Why don’t we increase this effect? While I was Governor of my district, I launched a Centennial Year Program, a service and “mkt” program to create an impact with the local service: During the District Convention I awarded each of the clubs that had put up a plaque in its territory that reminds everyone of the activities carried out by the service. Finally, what was the result? Well, the clubs have put up more than 100 plaques, creating a photo and video gallery that has been published on the District’s official website.
